Twitter Takeover Strategy

April 29, 2010

UPDATED Friday: There are TWO scheduled events for Saturday — 8:00 AM (#savetheseeker) and 12:00 PM (#saveourseeker) both Eastern Time (New York).

If you haven’t heard fans are planning on trending #LegendoftheSeeker and #SaveourSeeker on Saturday, May 1st at 12pm ET. On the Renewal Warwagon forum, Juliette posted some information that should be helpful:

It doesn’t have to be a retweet, it can be hashtags
—–
1. DO NOT SPAM! Your tweet should not (I repeat, SHOULD NOT) look like this:
#saveourseeker #saveourseeker #saveourseeker #saveourseeker #saveourseeker
OR
#seeker #seeker #seeker #seeker #seeker #seeker
OR
#saveourseeker #legendoftheseeker #saveourseeker #legendoftheseeker #saveourseeker #legendoftheseeker

THAT IS SPAM AND IT DOES NOT COUNT (plus it’s annoying)

2. DO NOT DO IT BEFORE THE DESIGNATED TIME
The way trending topics work is for a mass amount of people to tweet the same hash-tag at the same time. If you start doing it earlier than the designated time … it’ll be pointless and it will not make trending topics, which is what we want!

3. IT ISN’T THE NUMBER OF TWEETS, BUT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE TWEETING.
The more people we have doing this, the more successful it will be!
You might want to force/ask/ even begging your friend, followers, etc to type #saveourseeker ONCE per tweet! (Don’t forget to say Thanks when they did )

4. UNLOCK YOUR ACCOUNT DURING TRENDING!
It will not show up in trending topics if your account is set to private! Just unlock it for the time being and as soon as you are done tweeting for the day/night, you can reset it to private.

5. ONE HASH-TAG PER TWEET.
PLEASE REMEMBER THIS.
Because that is also spam, and spam is unwanted.
Sadly, you can’t put both #saveourseeker and #legendoftheseeker in one tweet because it will NOT BE COUNTED.

Good tweet:
I love #legendoftheseeker so much!

Bad tweet:
I love #legendoftheseeker so much, please #saveourseeker ! –> Will not be considered by Twitter

6. DO NOT PLACE LONE HASHTAGS
It won’t be counted either! Add some sentences inside your tweet

Good tweet:
I love #legendoftheseeker more than anything!

Bad tweet:
#saveourseeker <— Typing only this

I got all this from a kpop site that succefully gets topics to trend daily!

Also, the Allison Mack fans want to help the fandom trend #LegendoftheSeeker on Friday (April 30th) and Saturday (May 1st) if we help trend #AllisonMack. This sounds like a good idea because trending a topic takes about a thousand people. Timing is important too to capture trending for #LegendoftheSeeker. If you can’t make 12pm ET on Saturday, May 1st,  then check out www.twaitter.com which lets you TIME your tweets. Check out the Renewal Warwagon forum for more twitter trending information.

  1. Hi, is 8AM #SaveOurSeeker Twitter Takeover plan still going to push through? From what I understand, it’s

    #SaveOurSeeker at 8AM ET

    then

    #LegendOfTheSeeker at 12 noon ET ?

  2. It sounds like there are two initiatives. People are a little confused — understandably so — but I think the two initiatives came from different groups.

    It should be okay.

    • Michael, maybe you update the post (or post a new one?) to reflect the two initiatives? It is abit confusing, and might cost us in the numbers of tweets and people who are tweeting.

      • Sorry for the typo. Should be: Michael, maybe you can update the post (or post a new one?) to reflect the two initiatives? It is abit confusing, and might cost us in the numbers of tweets and people who are tweeting.

  3. Thank you for such a clear and easy to follow guide to making tweets count! I’m in, and I’m trending #AllisonMack too.

  4. I’m definitely in for trending for #LoTS. Such an awesome show. And #AllisonMack has been my favourite actress for years so the support is very much appreciated.

  5. I Want Save “The Legend of the seeker”. Haré lo que sea con salvarlo.

  6. I am attempting to clear up the time confusion as we speak. If I find out any more definitive information then I will update this post. Thank you for pointing out the confusion!
