12 Days of the Seeker

December 11, 2012

I wanted to do something for December that was a little special and helped to keep the idea of bringing back Legend of the Seeker. Since it’s the Christmas shopping season one hears all sorts of silly songs, and various renditions of “Twelve Days of Christmas” have been filling the air.

On the other hand, coordinating a lengthy 12-day campaign would have required more time and energy than I could commit to the task; and the more you ask of fans the fewer people will have the time and energy to participate.

Hence, I decided it would be simpler to just ask people to post something once a day from December 13 through December 25 in the form of a brief Tweet in the style of the “Twelve Days of Christmas” song.

So, on December 13 you Tweet something like “On the 1st Day of the Seeker all I want to see is LOTs coming back to TV”, etc.

December 14 is the 2nd Day of the Seeker, etc.

It’s easy enough to schedule 1 Tweet a day and you don’t have to feel like you’re letting the cause down if you miss a day or two.

But you can also help by ReTweeting other people’s Tweets. That way we’ll keep the tradition going throughout the twelve days without having to pound on the keyboard, schedule Tweets, etc.

BTW — you can actually schedule Retweets (for Tweets that have already been posted) through Worphy. It’s a fairly new service but I like it so far. Just grab the STATUS URL of the Tweet you want to retweet by right-clicking on the time stamp in the Twitter listing for a given Tweet.

You could grab 5-10 friends’ Tweets and schedule 1 Retweet for each of them each day.

Finally, we can use the hash tag of #12seekerdays to let people know what we’re doing. Don’t worry about trending. This isn’t about trending. But we can create some Storify pages, maybe, if we get enough interesting Tweets.

I’m sorry about not providing the details sooner. I’ve been really busy and stealing time to promote fandom projects. I should be able to get a few Tweets scheduled for December 13 in time. After that, I hope you’ll help me keep it going forward.

I’d love to see Craig Horner, Bridget Regan, Bruce Spence, and the rest of the Seeker cast get back together next fall, or maybe make a movie. The Tribune bankruptcy was so unfair to a great show and a great fandom.

And who knows? Maybe an online service like http://blip.tv/ will take an interest in the franchise (or maybe some production company that works with online media will).

I’m not ready to give up. I hope you’re not, either, because there is still a great deal more that we as fans can do to show people in the entertainment industry that there is a market for this show.

Craig Horner Mobbed at WonderCon 2012 on 2nd Day

March 18, 2012

Word has apparently gotten out that Craig Horner is greeting fans at the Legend of the Seeker fan table. Laura (@sot_fan from Save Our Seeker) has uploaded some more pictures to Twitter. Hopefully she’ll publish a whole gallery from WonderCon 2012 in a couple of days. Here are a couple of samples she uploaded today.

Seeker fans who cannot attend WonderCon 2012 have been busy on Twitter with a #richardfest that was scheduled from 12:00 PST to 3:30 PST today (so technically it’s still going on as I write this update). The show of support is warm and ongoing despite the fact that some of the most active Twitter fans have limited access while attending WonderCon 2012.

So far as I know, the next big Legend of the Seeker Twitterfest will probably be this year’s Mother Confessor Day in honor of Bridget Regan. Looking forward to it!

Thanks, Laura, for sharing photos from WonderCon and for organizing the fan table and coordinating with Richard and generally just for doing everything that you have done over the past two years to help bring back Legend of the Seeker. We’re here to Save The Seeker and that’s all there is to it!

Please Join the Xenite.Org 15th Anniversary Celebration on March 14

March 10, 2012

I don’t often ask my friends in fandom for favors but this coming Wednesday, March 14, 2012 is a special day for me. It marks the 15th anniversary of Xenite.Org, my first science fiction and fantasy domain. I created my first Website in August 1996 but by February 1997 I had four Websites scattered across several ISP accounts. I decided to consolidate them on my own domain. On March 14 I registered Xenite.Org and by March 17 it was visible to everyone on the Web.

Xenite.Org is not only one of the first science fiction and fantasy fan domains, it’s one of the first science fiction and fantasy domains. I don’t know how many others had been created by then. Certainly big sites like TheForce.Net and Xenafan.com were already in existence, but many great fan megasites such as Mugglenet, TheOneRing.net, and others were yet to be launched.

Today Xenite still receives over 35,000 monthly visitors. The Xenite.Org network still serves nearly 70,000 monthly visitors. The number goes well over 200,000 if you include all the spammy robots and hacker tools that are constantly probing our server. (roll your eyes)

On Wednesday I am asking our friends and fans to join in a Tweetabration. Please sign on to Twitter and post any message that includes “Happy Fifteenth Xenite-dot-Org”. If you want to include hash tags, #scifi and #fantasy are cool. Or you could also use #sffandom, a hash tag we use for posts from the SF-Fandom Science Fiction and Fantasy Forums.

Thank you in advance for your support. I love doing things for science fiction and fantasy fans and I’m still working to help spread the word about Legend of the Seekr. But I think you’ll agree that March 14 is a pretty special day. We need MORE 15-year-old science fiction and fantasy fan domains.

You can follow Xenite.Org on Twitter at @xenite_org.

You can follow our Legend of the Seeker news and promotions on Twitter at @seekerfans.

Thanks a lot!

Meet Craig Horner at WonderCon 2012

March 8, 2012

Hey Legend of the Seeker fans. If you haven’t heard by now, Craig Horner will be at WonderCon 2012 in Anaheim, CA the weekend of March 16-18. Craig himself has publicly confirmed the appearance through his Twitter account.

You can learn more details at SeekerSword.com, and you also have the opportunity to submit questions for Craig in advance by sending them via email to WizardsRule -at- SeekerSword.com (that’s an email address you have to put together).

I wish I could be there in person but I’m afraid that’s not possible. Nonetheless, as someone who has been privileged to speak with Craig by telephone I can tell you he has a great personality, he loves the Seeker fandom, and he is himself a science fiction and fantasy fan.

Craig is not only a very experienced actor with more than 10 years of television work to his credit, he’s also an accomplished musician.

Please be sure to check out WonderCon and let us know what you thought of the experience!

And a very special thanks to Laura at Save Our Seeker for letting me know about Craig appearing at WonderCon!

Save Our Seeker Announces Fan Contest to Help Bring the Show Back

February 7, 2012

Laura from Save Our Seeker is asking all Legend of the Seeker fans to participate in and help promote a contest that runs through March 2. This contest has a really special purpose. LOTS fans will be working together to persuade the one person who has the best shot at bringing back Legend of the Seeker for a third season.

Yes, Laura has uncovered the best man to contact — the man who should feel your Seeker love, the very key individual who needs to know that you want him to bring back the Seeker!

Okay, the teasing stops here: We need to convince Ken Biller that bringing Legend of the Seeker is what he should be focusing on. Ken was the Executive Producer for Legend of the Seeker. But I’m not going to try to explain all this to you since Laura has written a very poignant plea. Here is a quote:

An industry insider has told SaveOurSeeker.com that Legend of the Seeker Executive Producer Ken Biller, more than anyone else, is the one that we need to encourage to fight to bring back the series.

We’ve never written to Mr. Biller before and he needs to understand just how hard the fandom has worked to bring the show back and how much they still want it nearly two years later.

So what do you have to do? Send Ken Biller an imaginative, creative, and persuasive post card or letter each week in February; copy your creative snail mailing electronically and submit that to the contest; and wait for an email.

Terry Goodkind has graciously contributed the grand prize (you have to read this post for all the details) for the contest but there are OTHER prizes you may win even if you don’t get the top slot.

I don’t want to just copy and paste Laura’s careful instrudtions and steal her thunder. Please read her message in full, follow the links she provides, and join the contest (all the rules are in that one post). This may be our best shot ever at bringing Legend of the Seeker back into production.

So don’t just sit there yelling and screaming “YES! YES! LET’S DO IT!” Just get started. Now.

Thank you. Good luck to all of us.

ON EDIT: One more thing. Please help promote the contest! Here are a few ideas to help you do that:

  • Share links to Laura’s post ( http://legendofseeker.livejournal.com/993899.html ) on all your social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, et. al.
  • Share links to Laura’s post on any science fiction or entertainment forums or mailing lists you participate in.
  • Write a blog post about the contest like I have.
  • Ask your friends and relatives to join the contest and help promote it.
  • Create a cool graphic to promote the contest and put it on your blog or Website.
  • Create an 8×11 flyer to promote the contest and post it on bulletin boards at your schools, community centers, local science fiction book stores, gaming shops, etc.
  • Share scans of your creative flyers at the Save Our Seeker Contest Thread on the LOTS.Org forum.
  • If you have a podcast or radio show, mention the contest to your listeners.
  • Ask your local science fiction and fantasy meetup, book club, or fan group to join the contest and help promote it.
